You’re probably aware that Mitchell’s effort in progressing the role of bees in the sustainability of Canberra has been recognised recently in the 2014 Keep Australia Beautiful ACT Sustainable Cities Awards. Canberra Urban Honey received: The Young Legends Award, Overall Winner and National Finalist Award. It’s recognition of Mitchell’s long hours of diligently attending to the needs of bees throughout Canberra as well as his ability to work collaboratively with the community.
When accepting The Young Legends Award Mitchell said: “It’s a pleasure to be here with so many like minded people who are striving for a sustainable city. I just wanted to thank everyone who has supported me along the way, our hive hosts, my family, and my girlfriend Astrid. Thank you very much”.
Mitchell was interviewed by Adam Shirley on 666ABC as well as Canberra Times and you can read the article here article here.
We’ve all been very proud to watch Mitchell over the past 18 months while he invested significant amounts of energy and enthusiasm to take Canberra Urban Honey beyond its humble beginnings as a small volunteer project and turning it into a self-sustaining small business. It’s great to see the community embrace bees and their role in creating a sustainable Canberra.
We especially thank you for working with an incredibly enthusiastic young man who wants to do things differently – it helped us learn what worked and what didn’t.
